Arsenal are said to be tracking a pair of Premier League talents as Arsene Wenger seeks to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.

CaughtOffside understands that Arsene Wenger has set his sights on Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke and Everton wing-back Seamus Coleman, two players he believes will boost his Gunners attack.

Wenger will look to offer up to £20m for Villa Park forward Benteke, who has failed to hit the same heights he achieved in his debut season in the English top tier.

The 22 year old former Racing Genk man netted 19 goals in 34 Premier League appearances last term, goals that essentially kept Aston Villa in the top tier, but has managed just four thus far this season and Wenger will hope that a big money offer will be accepted by Paul Lambert’s side.

Benteke may well look to force the issue by making an official transfer request.

Arsene Wenger believes that Benteke will offer Olivier Giroud some much needed support up front.

Wenger is ready to offer up to £12m for Irish international Coleman who the Arsenal manager sees as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, who is likely to leave in the summer when his contract comes to an end with a move back to Ligue 1 said to be on the cards.

Though Wenger could opt to use Carl Jenkinson to fill the void the French boss wishes to bring in Coleman to help beef up his options on the right-flank.

The fact that both players would be available for Champions League action this season is a motivating factor though Wenger knows that successful approaches for the pair may be more likely next summer.
