Wolfsburg have made themselves known as big fans of the player and have never hid their desire to bring him on board at the earliest possible opportunity, whilst Leverkusen chief Rudi Voller has admitted that his side are also looking to do a deal of their own.

“We made no secret of our interest in Kevin De Bruyne right from last summer,” Voller said.

“There are many clubs interested in him.

“Regardless of our league position, we’re always looking for new players.

“It’s possible that we do sign somebody this winter, but then again, we could go into the second half of the season with the same team and look to do something next summer.

“If you do anything, then it’s got to be a top alternative to what we’ve already got here.”

However, a number of other sides are also said to be in the hunt for the Belgian international, who is desperate to leave Stamford Bridge in order to secure his place in next summer’s World Cup squad.

Borussia Dortmund, Hamburg, Schalke and Werder Bremen, where he spent last season on loan, are also interested. And there is plenty of domestic interest in his services too as Aston Villa have recently been linked.
