The 27-year-old joined the Rossineri in 2012 and was signed as a replacement for Thiago Motta who left to join Paris Saint Germain.

Milan have struggled for form this season, but Zapata has been one of the club’s most consistent performers and has seen himself linked with moves to a number of rival teams.

And one of those clubs is said to be United, and reports from England have suggested that coach Phil Neville has scouted him personally at various points over the past couple of weeks.

However, when he was asked by the Italian media about the proposed links with a move to England after Milan’s 2-2 draw with Udinese on Monday he said: “I do not know anything.

“I am just thinking about Milan. I have a contract until 2016 and I want to stay here.”

Zapata previously claimed to have turned down Liverpool in 2011 before he joined Villarreal.
