Both top-flight giants are keen to land the attacker in January.

The prolific Greece international is currently enjoying a red-hot campaign in front of goal for both club and country, so much so that Mitroglou has now begun to start drawing the attentions of a whole host of big-name clubs from across the Continent.

However, it is understood that it is the north London club and the Merseyside giants, as well as Premier League outfit Newcastle United, who are leading the chase for Mitroglou in the new year.

“If he keeps on doing well, it will be hard to keep him,” said Olympiakos head coach Jose Miguel Michel of his striker.

“We’ve known for some time that there has been interest from many clubs, but that’s only logical considering how well he has been doing lately.”

Mitroglou, 25, has so far managed to register a highly impressive 22 goals and three assists in total in just his 19 matches for Olimpiacos and Greece in all competitions this season, including 14 strikes in just 10 league outings for the Athens-based outfit.

However, with a contract at Olimpiacos that currently runs until June 30 2016, both the Gunners and the Reds know that the Greek marksman will not be cheap to buy either next month.
