The Anfield side are so keen, understandably, to keep the Uruguayan tied that they are ready to offer the 26 year old striker a deal that will make the in-form marksman the highest paid player in the club’s history.

Suarez has been in phenomenal form of late, scoring an astonishing 17 goals in 11 Premier League fixtures this season, form that has helped Liverpool to maintain not only a push for a coveted top four finish but also a genuine Premier League title challenge.

The former Ajax man is currently contracted to the Anfield side until 2016 but Liverpool want Suarez to commit further still to the Merseyside outfit and are ready to offer the player a deal in the region of £200k a week.

Brendan Rodgers has been keen to point out that Suarez is happy at the club, stating;

“He is really happy here. He is playing with a smile and enthusiasm. The whole profile of the club fits him perfectly. The supporters idolise him and you can see the connection there.”

Liverpool will therefore hope that Suarez will be more than willing to pen a new deal.

Liverpool’s Managing director Ian Ayre returned to Merseyside on Tuesday having spent 24 hours in Spain, where he held talks with Suarez’s agent, Pere Guardiola.

It seems fair to state that a January exit is unlikely and as such Suarez’s decision on whether to sign a new contract may well be down to whether Liverpool secure a top four finish at the end of the current campaign, failure to do so would presumably make it harder to convince the lethal finisher at the club.
