Ex-Espanyol manager has a close working relationship with his bosses on the south coast.

Pochettino only arrived at the south-coast club last January following the shock dismissal of previous boss Nigel Adkins, however, even in the short period of time that the 41-year-old has been at Southampton he has developed a reputation as being one of the most impressive and sough-after managers in the Premier League.

However, with the club currently sitting in a highly respectable ninth position in the standings, just a point behind Premier League champions Manchester United, it is understood that executive chairman Nicola Cortese is keen to sit down as soon as possible for face-to-face talks with Pochettino to discuss the possibility of the coach signing a new deal.

And that is because Tottenham are now understood to be targeting Pochettino, whose current contract with Southampton only runs until June 2015, to take over from the recently sacked Andre Villas-Boas in the White Hart Lane hot seat.
