Arsene Wenger will send scouts to monitor the in-form 25 year old in the coming weeks ahead of a potential bid next month with the North London ready to meet Costa’s wage demands and the Vicente Calderon forward’s release clause which is said to be set at around €38m (£31m).

Chief scout Steve Rowley has identified the Brazilian as an ideal candidate to strengthen a Gunners front-line that relies heavily on French forward Olivier Giroud.

Indeed the push to use Giroud regularly may be the reason for his recent run of average form, scoring in just one of his last ten appearances for the club.

The need to bring in alternative striking options is further exacerbated by the continued absence through injury of German international Lukas Podolski.

Costa has been in astounding form this season, scoring 17 goals in 16 La Liga fixtures as well as a further four in three Champions League starts, and could feel that a high-profile move to Arsenal could aid his push for a spot in Vicente del Bosque’s Spanish national team set-up, with the Brazilian born forward apparently keen on representing Spain.

This source claims that Arsenal have already made contact with Costa’s representatives about the potential availability of the former Real Valladolid man.
