Midfield maestro pledges future to Champions.
Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has signed a new contract with the club, thus ending interest in his signature from Manchester United, the Metro reports.
United had been one of a minority of clubs that had been hoping to lure the 29-year-old away from Catalonia after learning that there had been slow progress in adding on to the final 18 months of his deal.
However, he has now put pen-to-paper on a new three year deal at the Nou Camp and will be staying with Gerardo Martino’s men until 2018 at least.
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell said: “Andres Iniesta’s renewal is confirmed. It’s a great Christmas present. He will stay with us until 2018 and he could renew every year after that based on his playing performances.”
Iniesta will make the news official at a special ceremony to be hosted on Monday at the club he has made 479 appearances for since joining as a 12-year-old in 1996.
The Spanish international has enjoyed tremendous success during his time at the club, bringing in three Champions League trophies and six La Liga titles.
