Blues hope to tie up a deal for experienced South American shortly.

The representative of in-demand Inter Milan midfield player Fredy Guarin has revealed that Premier League giants Chelsea are interested in signing his client when the winter transfer window opens again for business in the new year, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

Speculation has been rife of late linking both the west London club, as well as Premier League champions Manchester United, with the experienced Colombia international.

However, Guarin’s representative has now confirmed that he was in the capital last week to meet with officials from Stamford Bridge to discuss the 27-year-old’s possible move to the Blues next month.

“We have already been to London with Inter and met with Chelsea directors to make their interest formal,” Marcelo Ferreyra told Colombian network Caracol Radio.

“If both clubs reach an agreement, a transfer is an option, but Fredy is happy at Inter as well if they don’t agree terms.

“Fredy feels important under Walter Mazzarri. The upcoming World Cup also plays a role. We will also meet with the Inter owner to see what the project looks like here.”

All of which means that the Red Devils now appear to be out of the running for the South American in January, and so clearing the path free for Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho to bring some much-needed creativity and goals to his so far lacklustre midfield for the second half of this season.

And in total so far in this campaign, Guarin has managed to register an impressive three goals and 10 assists in 18 matches in all competitions, including three strikes and six assists in his 16 Serie A outings for Inter.
