Chelsea’s search for a prolific forward will apparently see Jose Mourinho make a move for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain according to Portuguese source Abola.

The Argentine striker only moved to the San Paolo side in July but could perhaps be tempted by a move to reunite with his former Real Madrid boss at Stamford Bridge, especially having seen Napoli crash out of the Champions League at the group stage and eight points off the top of Serie A.

Though Mourinho often opted to use Karim Benzema over Higuain as his first choice forward during his Real Madrid tenure there is no evidence of anything other than a decent relationship between the pair, aside from the Portuguese boss jokingly stating that ‘He (Higuain) is the laziest player I have ever managed. If he was allowed, he’d come to training in a pyjamas.’

Indeed Higuain claimed that prior to his move to Naples Mourinho had expressed an interest in signing him only for former Blues interim boss Rafa Benitez luring the lethal finisher to Serie A.

Higuain has started well at Napoli, scoring 12 goals in 20 appearances thus far this season and having spent £34m on the 25 year old that they would demand a hefty profit if they were ever to consider selling the forward so soon after snapping him up.

Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba have scored just five goals between them this season so one can easily see why Mourinho would be keen to bring in a striking addition in January.
