The 22 year old Belgian has barely featured for the West London side this season and Chelsea’s defeat to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup may well lead to the attacking midfielder leaving the Premier League side sooner rather than later.
Jose Mourinho hinted that those who were playing predominantly in the ‘lesser’ cup competition were not likely to find playing time in other competitions, stating;
“My goal was to go as far as possible in this competition with players who have only had a few minutes in the first-team like Kevin De Bruyne and Mark Schwarzer”, Mourinho said.
“Unfortunately for them that will not happen.”
De Bruyne started opening Premier League fixtures against Hull City and Man United but has since been left warming the bench and a move away in January seems likely as he looks to secure regular first team football ahead of next summer’s 2014 World Cup finals.
Bundesliga sides Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg are both keen on bringing in the Chelsea man in January, a move that Jose Mourinho may well now look to finalise.
