Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been strongly linked with making a move for the talented 21-year-old ever since being impressed by his performances in the Champions League earlier this season.
And Wenger is said to be considering his defensive options with the January transfer window coming up and has earmarked the Swiss stopper as a potential replacement for Thomas Vermaelen as his future at the club is still very much up in the air.
And Schar’s agent, Dimitrios Papadopoulos, has confirmed that Arsenal are just one of the number of top European clubs taking a closer look at his client.
“He is happy at Basle, where there is a great atmosphere within the club,” Papadopoulos said.
“Arsenal? I can confirm we have had contact with English clubs who want to sign him.
“There is also interest from Italian and German clubs, but we have more contact from England.”
Schar is thought to be valued by the Swiss giants at around £6m and it is rumoured that the club would be willing to let him go in order to strengthen other areas of the squad.
