Tottenham are apparently closing in on a deal to appoint a successor to Andre Villas-Boas according to the Metro.

White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy has ramped up his push to bring in a full time successor to Villas-Boas, with interim boss Tim Sherwood seemingly unlikely to fill the role on a permanent basis following the North London club’s home defeat to West Ham in the Capital One Cup last night.

43 year old Dutchman Frank de Boer is now strongly linked with the post and has reportedly been formally approached about filling the role.

De Boer has been a massive success since becoming Ajax boss in December 2010, since when the former Dutch international has led the Amsterdam club to three successive Eredivisie titles and would perhaps be the ideal man to take the Tottenham reins.

Andre Villas-Boas was axed following a succession of hammerings with the 5-0 home loss to Liverpool proving to be the final straw.
