Having persuaded Luis Suarez to put pen to paper on a new long term deal it may be fair to say that the Anfield side could well mount a genuine Premier League title push this term.
The Uruguayan has been in fine form this season and has as a result continued to be linked with a potential Liverpool exit but now the uncertainty of his long term future at the club has, to a large extent, vanished with one signature and as such may well give Brendan Rodgers’ side a push to continue their excellent start to the current campaign.
The four and a half year deal will see Luis Suarez earn £160k a week for the rest of the current season and £200k a week for the remainder of the contract, which will set the Merseyside club back £45m in total and whilst that is a big sum it was essential to tie the former Ajax man to the club.
The deal makes Suarez the highest paid player in the club’s history and that’s a record the striker richly deserves following his astonishing return of 17 goals in 11 Premier League starts this season.
