Man United appear to be closing in on a deal to sign long term target Wesley Sneijder according to the Daily Mirror.

The experienced playmaker is willing to take a massive pay-cut to encourage the Old Trafford side to make an offer to his current club Galatasaray.

The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan man is willing to see his salary cut from £4m down to £3m a year in a bid to persuade Man United to acquire his services.

Sneijder is apparently fearful that playing at the Turkish giants could lead to a downgrading of his position within the Dutch national team set-up and is therefore keen to make a high-profile move in January.

Man United boss David Moyes could well do with freshening up his midfield as currently he lacks any semblance of a goal-scoring option from the middle of the park and with the likes of Anderson and Tom Cleverley failing to impress and Marouane Fellaini yet to make an impact since moving to the club there is certainly scope for the addition of added creativity in his under-performing squad.
