The 22 year old Belgian was drafted into the Blues first team squad having enjoyed a season long loan spell at Werder Bremen last term but has failed to impress Jose Mourinho and as such an imminent Blues exit is likely.

Indeed Werder Bremen are keen to bring in De Bruyne on a permanent basis but must fight Bayer Leverkusen to secure a deal to bring in the former Racing Genk man.

Bayer Leverkusen may well prove more tempting an offer for De Bruyne after a solid start to the season has seen Sami Hyypiä’s side maintain a position in second spot in the Bundesliga table ahead of Borussia Dortmund, but some way behind runaway leaders Bayern Munich.

De Bruyne may well be concerned that a lack of first team football could adversely affect his standing in the Belgian national team set-up and with the 2014 World Cup finals just around the corner the attacking midfielder may well look to leave Chelsea in January.
