Liverpool have set their sights on Chelsea wing-back Ryan Bertrand according to the Daily Mail.

Having lured Daniel Sturridge from the Stamford Bridge club Brendan Rodgers will look to bring in the 24 year old to Anfield as he seeks to strengthen his defensive options.

Bertrand has played second fiddle to Ashley Cole for a number of years and has recently seen Cesar Azpilicueta jump ahead of him in Jose Mourinho’s first team pecking order.

Liverpool have seen youngster John Flanagan impress since stepping to fill the spot usually filled by injured Spaniard Jose Enrique and Rodgers may feel that Bertrand, who can also play in a winger role, could offer the club more strength in depth to his squad as he pushes for a coveted top four finish.

Bertrand has only started one Premier League fixture this season and is perhaps a player Mourinho feels he can afford to lose in January.
