Chelsea’s efforts to land Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa appear to have been given a boost with El Confidencial claiming that the Vicente Calderon side are ready to cash-in on the 25 year old forward.

Costa has a £32m release clause and has shown the kind of form that will leave many club’s readying moves to trigger the deal with Man United also keen on the Brazilian born striker, who has ambitions to represent Spain at international level.

Jose Mourinho apparently sees Costa as the ideal man to lead the Blues attack with his current crop of strikers all failing to impress.

Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba have scored just five Premier League goals between them and Mourinho may well feel that without a prolific striker leading their attack they have little chance of challenging for major honours.

Costa has scored 19 goals in 17 La Liga appearances this season and would presumably be able to secure a far more lucrative contract at Chelsea than any deal Atletico Madrid can offer.

Atletico Madrid are well known for cashing in on their top talents with the likes of Sergio Aguero, Fernando Torres, Diego Forlan and David de Gea leaving the club in recent seasons.
