Sevilla offloaded a number of their top talents over the summer with Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo, Gary Medel and Geoffrey Kondogbia among those who left the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, and Brendan Rodgers may well be hoping his side are happy to pay the fee required to sign the 25 year old attacking midfielder as his side pushes to secure that all important top four spot.
Rakitic has had an excellent season, netting seven goals and providing six assists in 15 La Liga fixtures this term, but could perhaps be tempted by a move to Anfield, not least as his side currently sit some way off the Champions League qualification spots.
Rodgers may see Rakitic as a long term replacement for Steven Gerrard and the former Schalke man could offer an ideal creative link between midfield and attack and if Sevilla are still experiencing financial concerns they may perhaps accept a fee lower than the €40m release clause.
