Man City are readying a shock move for Barcelona star Lionel Messi according to the Daily Mail.

In a move this source dubs the ‘Impossible Dream’ the Etihad Stadium side feel they have an inkling of a chance of luring the Argentine international to the Premier League following recent reports of a falling out between the four time Ballon d’Or winner and Barcelona director Javier Faus.

The 26 year old is currently recovering from a hamstring injury and is apparently unhappy with Barcelona’s stance with regards to a possible improved contract he may be angling for.

Messi is tied down to a long term deal, earning him £13.5m a year up until 2018, but apparently the mercurial forward wants a new contract and this has led to friction between the player and Faus.

It seems almost unthinkable that Barcelona would sell Messi though the club has managed fairly well without the forward in recent weeks, indeed Gerardo Martino’s side notched up five goals away at Getafe yesterday and that was without Neymar.

This source points out that Man City have the financial backing to make such a move though one wonders if Messi would ever consider leaving the club he joined as a 12 year old.

However if he were to move perhaps the chance to team-up with fellow countrymen Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta and Martín Demichelis would be tempting for the Barcelona legend.
