West Ham defender James Tomkins has been arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer among a myriad of offences according to the Daily Mail.

The Hammers star was arrested at the Sugar Hut nightclub in Essex initially for being drunk and disorderly but then added charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer following an incident early on Sunday morning.

The 24 year old had been out drinking following West Ham’s 3-1 defeat to Man United earlier on Saturday evening and may well be punished by boss Sam Allardyce.

An Essex Police spokesman said: ‘Police were called by security staff from the Sugar Hut Village shortly before 12.30am on Sunday the 22nd following reports of a disturbance.

‘Officers arrived and arrested James Tomkins before later charging him with one count of assaulting a police officer, one count of resisting arrest and one count of being drunk and disorderly in a public place.’
