Chelsea are lining up a bid to sign Benfica pair Lazar Markovic and Nemanja Matic according to the Daily Mirror.

The Lisbon based Primeira Liga side are reportedly in financial difficulty and could therefore look to sell star players to help balance the books and Jose Mourinho is ready to make a move for the Serbian international pair.

Benfica are looking to secure £12m for teenager winger Markovic, with Mourinho apparently already in talks to sign the youngster and are keen on re-signing midfielder Matic, who is valued by the Portuguese club at £20m.

Matic left for Benfica as part of the deal that saw David Luiz move to Stamford Bridge and given that Mourinho has frozen the defender out of first team action a move to bring the tough tackling midfielder back to West London could well be financed by a potential sale of the Brazilian international.

Benfica’s exit from the Champions League has left the club looking secure funds in January and Chelsea are keen to bring in the pair to help in their push to secure the Premier League crown in Mourinho’s first season back at the club.

One imagines that Mourinho may be ready to allow under-performing members of his Blues squad leave in January to help finance January transfer deals with the likes of Demba Ba, Kevin de Bruyne and Juan Mata perhaps facing an uncertain winter at Chelsea.
