The highly rated Argentina international has found himself in and out of the los Blancos first team so far in this campaign following the arrival of Tottenham wide man Gareth Bale in the Spanish capital last summer for a world-record transfer fee worth a staggering 100 million euros.
However, Di Maria has still featured prominently for the La Liga outfit at certain times of the season, with the 25-year-old having managed to feature in 22 matches in total in all competitions to date for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, recording an impressive five goals and nine assists along the way.
And that also includes two strikes and four assists in his 15 La Liga contests for the Spaniards, with the South American having now hit out at the Press in Spain for claiming that the skilful winger was set to depart the Santiago Bernabeu at some point next month.
“I knew that a €100m [£86m] player was coming and he had to play,” said Di Maria, who has a contract at Madrid that runs until June 30 2018.
“No I have not asked out. My head is at Real Madrid. You [journalists] put that I was going to Tottenham or another club. You know where these reports come out.
“I’m happy at Real Madrid. I never asked for a renewal. A player who does not play cannot request a renewal.”
