Southern Italian giants are keen to make a big profit on the player they bought from los Blancos only last summer for £34.5m.

Mega-rich Premier League side Chelsea are set to sign prolific Napoli front man Gonzalo Higuain for a whopping £48 million when the January transfer window opens again for business at the turn of the year, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The west London club may currently only be two points off joint Premier League leaders Liverpool and Arsenal as they approach the halfway point of the campaign, as well as also having qualified for the knockout phase of the Uefa Champions League, however, the Blues front men have still struggled desperately at times so far this season to hit the back of the net.

And whether it be the likes of £50m club-record signing Fernando Torres, experienced Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o, who was signed from big-spending Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala last summer, or Senegal international Demba Ba, neither attacker has managed to convince returning Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho that he is worth a place up front at Stamford Bridge going forward.

All of which means that the self-styled Special One is now ready to be reunited again with Argentina international Higuain, a player that Mourinho knows only too well from their time working together previously at the Santiago Bernabeu.
