The mega-rich top-flight giants have been heavily linked with making a move for the coveted England Under-21 international for some time now, although that speculation has started to increase heavily in recent weeks as doubts continue to grow about the future of veteran left-back Ashley Cole at Stamford Bridge.

The experienced England international has not started a Premier League match for the west London club since they were surprisingly beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United at St James’ Park at the start of November, with returning Blues manager Jose Mourinho having instead preferred right-back Cesar Azpilicueta in the role.

However, it is believed that the self-styled Special One does not see the Spain international as being the long-term answer to the problem position, with the Portuguese instead wanting to make a move for Shaw when the January transfer window reopens next week.

But his opposite number at St Mary’s has now warned Mou that he has no chance of luring the 18-year-old to the capital next month.

“The player wants to stay at the club. He has made a statement about this himself,” said the Argentinian.

“Other clubs can watch him and show their interest but he does not want to go anywhere and we do not want to sell him.

“Not just with Luke Shaw but I think many of our players that have been in the spotlight recently need to adapt to these new experiences.

“But the rumours are not helpful for him.

“Luke is still learning how to be an experienced player and it is taking him time to mature as a player.

“He is growing, maturing and need to develop psychologically, mentally and tactically.”
