Chelsea midfield player Ramires believes that by re-signing Benfica star Nemanja Matic when the winter transfer window opens again for business in the new year, the west London club will win silverware come the end of this season, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The highly rated midfielder played for the Blues for two years between 2009 and 2011 after arriving at Stamford Bridge from MFK Kosice in August 2009 on a four-year deal.

However, Matic played just three matches in total for the club in that time, two of which came in the Premier League, before moving to Lisbon in January 2011 as part of the 25m euros deal that also saw Brazil defender David Luiz move in the opposite direction.

And since joining Benfica, the Serbia international has gone on to prove himself to be one of the stand-out players in his position currently playing on the Continent, with Matic having managed to score nine goals in total in his 93 matches in all competitions, including six strikes in his 55 Premier League outings for the club.

As a result, Brazil international Ramires has now urged his employers to push the boat out next month in order to lure Matic back to west London

“If it depends on me then I would sign Matic on January 1. I’m convinced with him in the team, he would help us our obtain our objectives,” Ramires told Portugese newspaper Ojogo.
