The Old Trafford manager is keen on the 24 year old German international but has been informed that the attacker’s previous £29.4m release clause has now risen to £40m, a fee that the Scot may well be willing to pay given the player’s great run of form since moving to the Westfalenstadion 18 months ago.

Moyes has been scouting talents as he looks to build a squad with ‘world class players for every position’ and though the former Everton boss is also looking to bring in a centre-back and a left-back to act as a long term replacement for Patrice Evra the acquisition of a creative midfielder remains his priority.

Having seen Mario Gotze move to Bayern Munich and with Robert Lewandowski also set to leave the club Jurgen Klopp will be loathed to lose Reus but the club’s form of late may well lead the former Borussia Monchengladbach man to be considering his options.

Dortmund are now way off the Bundesliga title pace, some 12 points off top of the table Bayern Munich who have a game in hand, though Reus has himself been in good form netting 12 goals in 25 appearances in all competitions.

David Moyes could well do with a goal scoring midfielder and may see Reus as the ideal addition to boost his attack, though clearly such a move won’t come cheap.
