The former Lyon man was heavily linked with a move to Anfield over the summer, but a concrete offer failed to materialise. However, he has not featured for the Magpies from the start since late October and has made just a handful of appearances from the bench for Alan Pardew’s men.

A lack of regular first team football will be on his mind during a World Cup year as he hopes to be able to force his way back into the plans of Les Bleus coach Didier Deschamps.

But despite that, he has insisted that he is not looking to leave the club in the immediate future.

“A departure from Newcastle? That question is playing right now. But I am not thinking about it”, he said.

“I’m under contract to Newcastle and I feel good.

“The World Cup? I’m not thinking about that either. I’m just thinking about my club and helping when it’s possible.”

Ben Arfa’s current deal runs until 2015, and as of yet there have been no talks over extending it.
