Everton manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that misfiring striker Nikica Jelavic will likely leave the club when the January transfer window opens next week, according to the Metro.

The 28-year-old joined the Merseyside outfit in January 2012 from Scottish side Glasgow Rangers, and after making an impressive start to life in the English top flight he struggled to replicate that form last season.

His chances this term have been limited thanks to the arrival and strong performances of Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku, something that doesn’t look set to change anytime soon.

And Martinez has admitted that he could be on his way out in the new year by claiming that there have already been a few enquiries for a number of his stars.

“We’ve had a couple of enquiries from two different clubs for one of our players,” said Martinez.

“We’ve had a conversation [with Jelavic] and he has the World Cup around the corner. He needs to be playing minutes and we understand that. We’ll always try to give a good assessment of the situation, but that’s not affecting anyone at the club.

“Whatever happens in January will be for the good of the football club and that’s where the work is.”
