Tottenham are readying moves to strengthen their limp attack but White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy isn’t likely to splash the cash in January having spent over £100m over the summer and the Daily Mirror believe the North London club are set to bid for West Brom striker Shane Long.

The Republic of Ireland international is out of contract at the end of the season and as such the Baggies are looking for as little as £4m for the 26 year old, a cut-price deal that could well ease Tim Sherwood’s problems up front.

Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela were signed in the summer for combined fee of over £50m but have scored just one goal from open play in Premier League action this season and Jermain Defoe is set to move to the MLS and as such there is certainly a need to bring in striking reinforcements in January.

Tottenham have scored just 19 goals in 18 Premier League fixtures this season.

Long has scored 22 goals in 85 appearances for West Brom since moving to the Hawthorns back in August 2011 and has netted against Chelsea and Aston Villa this term.
