City boss Manuel Pellegrini has been a long time admirer of the Serbian international and has been linked with a move for the player alongside Chelsea ever since taking over the club during the summer.

And Pellegrini hinted at a press conference on Monday morning that the signing could very well be in the pipeline after holding talks with the club’s hierarchy over the need to bring fresh faces into the side to help maintain their challenge for honours on all fronts.

“For the moment we are not talking about that [the transfer window]. But we are always analysing what we need and what we don’t need,” he said.

“There is a possibility in the winter transfer window for every club. We will see what we are going to do in the next days.”

City have also recently been in the market for a new goalkeeper with Malaga’s Willy Cabalero and Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas said to be topping the list.

City signed five players in the summer with Fernandinho, Alvaro Negredo, Jesus Navas, Stevan Jovetic, and Martin Demichelis all being brought in to strengthen Roberto Mancini’s squad which failed to live up to expectations.
