The Spanish full-back has already undergone a medical at the Stadium of Light and agreed terms over a deal that will keep him in the northeast until the end of the current campaign.

The former Bolton man left the Reebok over the summer to head for the Serie A side but has found his chances limited under Vincenzo Montella and has thus been allowed to move out on a short term loan deal.

“I can confirm Marcos is going to be with us for the rest of the season,” said Poyet.

“I was looking for a player in that position on the left side and I hope he

will help us and everybody will like him.

“I am delighted that everything is agreed.”

Both Poyet and predecessor Paolo Di Canio have used a number of different players in that position this term, but would-be main man Andrea Dossena has struggled to establish himself as first choice, making only five league starts since arriving at the club over the summer.
