Marcelo’s team-mate Fabio Coentrao, Sevilla youngster Alberto Moreno, Southampton teenager Luke Shaw and Everton star Leighton Baines are also said to be on the Man United radar.

Carlo Ancelotti is unlikely to be ready to listen to offers for Marcelo as the Brazilian international is now firmly rooted in his side as Real Madrid’s first choice left-back, having edged out Coentrao.

The 25 year old is into his eighth season at Real Madrid and though having at times suffered with injuries the former Fluminense man has made 246 appearances for the Spanish giants, winning three La Liga titles in the process.

Evra is out of contract next summer and is likely to leave Man United and David Moyes doesn’t appear to see current back-up Alexander Buttner as a possible replacement for the French international.
