The 33 year old Blues star has spent portions of the current season frozen out of the first team by Jose Mourinho, who opted to use Cesar Azpilicueta in a make-shift left-back role, and will be out of contract in the summer.

Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti knows Cole well from his tenure at Stamford Bridge and is destined to lose unsettled Portuguese international Fabio Coentrao and believes the Chelsea man can still perform at the highest level and as such is keen to welcome the England man to the Spanish capital.

Mourinho is looking to bring in Southampton youngster Luke Shaw and doesn’t appear to want to hand Cole a new deal so a move away from the West London side is inevitable though is certainly more likely to occur in the summer when his contract comes to a close.

Ashley Cole can then command a massive salary on the grounds that he would move to Real Madrid on a free transfer, a fresh challenge that would surely tempt the full-back and would certainly keep him in Roy Hodgson’s England plans, whereas a potential move to the MLS, which would perhaps bring a longer term deal for the veteran, would effectively end his national team career.
