The former Everton manager had been hoping to add to his creative options in midfield over the summer following his replacement of Sir Alex Ferguson but had seen his attempts to land a number of high profile targets, like Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas, dashed.
Moyes then turned his attention to Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus after learning that he had a substantial release clause in his contract, but the German international ruled out making the move to Old Trafford by declaring his intention to stay with the Bundesliga hopefuls.
Reus has insisted: “I am in Dortmund and I intend to stay here.
“We have a great group and I want to win titles with Borussia. Speculation about other clubs does not matter.”
With that in mind, the Scot is now expected to pursue a deal for Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann after being impressed with the 22-year-old during the group stages of the Champions League when the two sides met.
The Frenchman has been in fine form this season and has already notched up 11 goals in 15 appearances, though their path to his signature may be blocked by Paris Saint Germain, who are also said to be interested in his services.
