Chelsea have seen a £50m bid for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain turned down according to the Daily Telegraph.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in a prolific forward to lead his attack but will now seemingly have to look into alternative options with his push for Argentine international Higuain turned down flat by Napoli.

Former Chelsea interim manager Rafa Benitez brought in Higuain from Real Madrid in a £37.5m deal over the summer and the 25 year old has ably filled the void left by Edinson Cavani, who left for PSG leaving the Naples side short of a top notch forward.

Mourinho knows Higuain well from his time in charge of Real Madrid but it appears he was unable to convince the Serie A side to sell a player who has only been at the San Paolo for a few short months, but has more than proved himself by netting 14 goals in 21 appearances for Napoli.

Chelsea’s current striking options, Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o have all failed to impress leaving Mourinho having to rely on his creative midfielders to weigh in with the lion’s share of the goals this season.
