Jose Mourinho may well have ran out of patience with the Spaniard following his reaction to being subbed against Southampton.

Though Mata had two excellent seasons at Stamford Bridge prior to Mourinho’s return to West London it appears that past record counted for nothing as the Portuguese boss opted to use the former Valencia man sparingly at the beginning of the season.

He then appeared to change his stance and offered Mata a run in the first team but the pint sized playmaker has failed to recapture his form, managing just two assists and no goals in 13 Premier League appearances.

The fact that Eden Hazard and Oscar have been consistent attacking options this term may well leave Mourinho ready to sell Mata, who could perhaps become a disruptive element in the dressing room.

This source rates Mata at being worth £30m and it would take an offer of that magnitude for Chelsea to sell, as clearly with owner Roman Abramovich on board there is no huge need to boost finances.

Mourinho will be more open to selling to Napoli than to a Premier League rival and Mata may feel it’s time to move on, especially as a continued run out of the Chelsea first team could be detrimental to his push for a prominent role in Vicente del Bosque’s 2014 World Cup finals squad.
