Rooney has been in excellent form this season and has just under 18 months to run on his current contract but will apparently not consider signing a new deal until after the 2014 World Cup finals, which of course would leave the striker vulnerable to offers from prospective parties who know that his value will decrease significantly every month that passes with a new deal being agreed.

The Old Trafford star is on a £250k a week deal and though speculation was rife that Rooney wanted to leave last summer the forward has shown just how capable he is of making a consistent impact at the Premier League club, this despite David Moyes’s side struggling for form.

Rooney is the Premier League’s leading assist maker and has already netted 14 goals in all competitions and there will be no shortage of offers for his services next summer, with a January departure looking next to impossible.

On the possibility of Rooney seeking a Man United exit if the club failed to secure a Champions League berth for next term Moyes stated;

‘We would have to wait and see what happened in that situation.’
