Man United are readying a move to sign long term target Ezequiel Garay as David Moyes targets the Benfica man as a replacement for veteran Rio Ferdinand according to TuttoMercato.

The 27 year old Argentine international has successfully reignited his career in Portugal after a poor spell at Real Madrid but now may be ready to leave Benfica for pastures new.

The Lisbon based club may well feel the need to cash in on the tough tackling defender in view of their elimination from the Champions League at the group stage and Moyes could well feel that Garay is a player worth forking out a big sum to bring to Old Trafford.

Moyes has seen Phil Jones and Chris Smalling thrive in defensive midfield and right-back roles and Nemanja Vidic has recurring injury concerns and as such there is certainly scope for a move to bring in another central defensive option in January.

Garay is into his third season at the Estádio da Luz and last season was unfortunate enough to finish up with runners-up medals in the Primeira Liga, Taça de Portugal and the Europa League so could feel the time is right for a move to Man United.
