Chelsea appear to be closing in on a move to bring in AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli to give the Blues attack a much needed boost according to NESN.

Jose Mourinho is interested in signing the 23 year old, who he knows well from his time in charge of Inter Milan, and AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi is ready to accept offers of €25m (£20.7m), a fee that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is more than able to afford.

The former Man City man could be the ideal man to lead the Chelsea attack, with the likes of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba failing to score with any semblance of regularity.

Despite the fact that AC Milan have been in woeful form Balotelli has scored at a prolific pace, netting 20 goals in 29 appearances for the Italian giants since his move a year ago from the Etihad Stadium, a move that is still being paid off in installments.

Though Balotelli will be cup tied from Champions League action his arrival in January could be key to Chelsea’s push for a Premier League title.

Chelsea currently sit in third spot, just two points off the top of the table, so with the addition of a proven goalscorer who is in-form Mourinho may well feel his chances of securing the Premier League title will be significantly increased.
