This will be the second successive transfer window that David Moyes has missed out on the Portuguese international as he had hoped to bring him on board on September 1st, but missed out due to not having the necessary paperwork and was left to rue not signing any new full-backs after seeing his interest in Everton’s Leighton Baines rejected by Everton earlier on in the summer.

However, he can expect to receive the same outcome again this time around as Ancelotti has ruled out any of his players coming or going  in the new year.

“No players are leaving and we’re not going to sign anyone,” he said. “The window is closed for us.”

Moyes, meanwhile, is desperate to add to all aspects of his squad after suffering through a slow start to the campaign before seeing his side crash out of the FA Cup third round at the weekend to fellow Premier League side Swansea City.
