Arsenal are set to make an offer of €18m (£14.8m) for Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata according to Spanish source Marca as reported on Sports Witness.

There has been speculation that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had been looking to sign the 21 year old on a loan deal until the end of the current campaign, seemingly a deal that Real Madrid were not interested in, hence the push to land the Spanish Under 21 international on a permanent basis.

Though Morata is considered a player with a bright future Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti has seemingly opted to use fellow youngster Jese Rodriguez as his ‘go to’ back-up option for French forward Karim Benzema, which has left the Arsenal target warming the bench for most of the current campaign.

Morata has started just one La Liga fixture this season and his last cameo appearance from the bench came back in November, and may feel that a move to pastures new could help his career progression.

The talented forward finished as the top scorer at last summer’s European Under 21 Championships and a move by Wenger certainly adheres to his youthful transfer policy.

With Olivier Giroud recovering from illness, Nicklas Bendtner out with an ankle injury and Theo Walcott suffering a knee problem that will keep him out for as much as six months there is certainly a need to strengthen the Arsenal attack this month.
