Moyes has been handed a massive £100m transfer war-chest and will look to beat off a host of clubs to La Liga goal machine Costa, with the 25 year old said to have a £32m release clause written into his Vicente Calderon contract which many sides may look to activate this month.

Interest in Costa may well be as a result of the uncertainty surrounding Wayne Rooney’s Man United future, with the 28 year old being into the last 18 months of his current deal with no talks as yet to extend his contract.

Costa has scored 19 La Liga goals this season and has played a pivotal role in Diego Simeone’s sides rise to prominence.

Koke has been Atletico Madrid’s chief creator, only Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas has provided more assists in the Spanish top tier, and is said to be valued at around £30m, a price that Moyes can clearly afford given the funds handed to him by the Man United board.

Man United’s current midfield options are eight off form, injured or do not provide a great deal of attacking invention, indeed the likes of Anderson, Tom Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa may well be fighting for their futures at the Premier League club.
