The 22 year old centre-back moved to Parkhead last summer in a £1.6m deal but has impressed enough over the past few months to warrant a great deal of interest from a number of Premier League sides, with Man City also running the rule on the former Dutch Under 21 international.
Celtic have the former Groningen man tied down to a long term contract but an offer significantly higher than the fee paid by the Glasgow outfit may well be considered though it’s clear from the praise heaped on the youngster by Bhoys boss Neil Lennon that the SPL side would be loathed to lose van Dijk
Neil Lennon has stated of the Celtic star’s potential step up to the senior Dutch national tea:
“It’s inevitable, if he keeps going and progressing the way he is, that he’ll become a Dutch international. He makes it look easy. People seem to think he has a laid-back attitude, but his work ethic is very high and he’s a kid who wants to get better.
“I’d like to think Virgil would get a chance with his country.”
Arsene Wenger may well be looking to bring in youthful defensive additions to offer more strength in depth and perhaps push the likes of Per Mertesacker, Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny for first team action.
