Any move to sign the 18 year old wide-man will not prove cheap with the Daily Mirror claiming it could cost the West London side as much as £30m to convince the South-Coast side to sell Shaw.
Mourinho is looking for a long term replacement for England veteran Ashley Cole and Luke Shaw does seem the ideal man for the job.
Shaw has been hugely impressive since breaking into the Southampton first team set-up last season and his mature displays have already earned him a call-up to the England Under 21 squad and a high profile move could help in his push for a first senior cap.
Indeed a January transfer may even hand Shaw an outside shot of making it into Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup finals squad.
Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino would be loathed to lose Shaw but could perhaps invest any funds wisely into strengthening his Saints squad and the St Mary’s side have sold impressive youngsters in the recent past with the likes of Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all leaving the club to become household names.
