The Senegal international has been attracting the attentions of both the Premier League leaders and the Merseyside outfit too in recent weeks after turning in a number of eye-catching displays at the back for Anderlecht of late.

So much so that it appears as though the top flight duo will compete for Kouyate ‘s signature now that the winter transfer window has reopened again for business for the year, with the centre back’s agent also confirming as much.

“I have been in talks with representatives from Liverpool and Arsenal over Cheikhou Kouyate,” revealed Saffet Balkan.

“Arsenal are very interested in Kouyate. It’s very likely that he’ll be joining a Premier League club soon.”

Kouyate, who has a contract with Anderlecht that currently runs until June 30 2016, has so far featured in 27 matches in total for the Belgiums in this campaign, 19 of which have come in the league.

And it is expected that the 24-year-old central defender will cost somewhere in the region of £10m to purchase this month.
