Seemingly it’s the club’s defence that will see the biggest makeover with Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra set to leave in the summer when their current contracts come to an end.

Veteran centre-back Nemanja Vidic, who has been plagued with injuries over recent seasons, will also leave and following him to the exit will be Dutch left-back Alexander Buttner.

Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard will leave having failed to unseat David de Gea as the first choice keeper and Brazilian midfielder Anderson will be sold though one wonders just how much Man United will hope to garner for a player that cost them £22m back in 2007.

Winger Nani will be looking for a new club as will underused striker Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican international has been a regularly goal-scorer when called upon but sits firmly behind Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and Danny Welbeck in the club’s striking pecking order.
