The Merseysiders are known to currently be keen to add more strength in depth to their ailing back line, especially in light of a number of untimely injuries that the Reds have suffered of late to the likes of vice-captain Daniel Agger, France international Mamadou Sakho, full-back John Flanagan and left-back Jose Enrique.

And as a result, Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers is said to be desperate to sign a new full back before the winter window slams shut for business once and all for the season at the end of this month, with the Northern Irishman now believed to be eyeing a deal for Torino’s Croatia international.

Vrsaljko, who has reportedly also been attracting the attentions of Premier League leaders Arsenal in recent months, has only been with the Serie A outfit since July, when Genoa signed the 21-year-old from Dinamo Zagreb for just €4m.

And with a contract with the Italians that now runs until June 30 2017, it is expected that Liverpool will have to pay a fee believed to be somewhere in the region of £10m in order to secure Vrsaljko’s services this month.
