The England international will remain at White Hart Lane until the end of February with the 31 year old’s move to Canada officially taking place as of February 28th.

Defoe may well have sacrificed his chances of a spot in Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup squad though the chance of a fresh challenge in North America has clearly attracted the former West Ham man.

First team chances have been limited for Defoe this term with the likes of Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor being ahead of the experienced striker in the Tottenham pecking order.

Defoe has scored a total of 142 goals for Tottenham, across two spells, but has started just three Premier League fixtures this season but has scored nine goals in cup competitions.
