The adaptable England international, who can play at right-back or in a central defensive role, is hoping Arsene Wenger makes a move for his services as he seeks to re-ignite a career that is currently stuttering at the Etihad Stadium.
Richards, an Arsenal supporter, could perhaps be seen as a replacement for French international Bacary Sagna, who is out of contract in the summer.
Jose Mourinho is also keen on the Man City man who is currently warming the bench with Pablo Zabaleta forcing him out of Manuel Pellegrini’s first team starting line-up.
Richards has started just two Premier League fixtures this season and would surely jump at the chance of a move to Stamford Bridge or the Emirates Stadium, with Jose Mourinho reportedly being a big admirer of the defender who he attempted to sign back in 2006.
One imagines that Mourinho sees Richards as an option to fill the right-back slot, perhaps ahead of Branislav Ivanovic, with Cesar Azpilicueta seen as a possible long term replacement for Ashley Cole, who is out of contract in the summer.
Richards was a big hit when he first emerged as a Man City regular, earning regular England caps early in his career, but injuries and average form have seen the Birmingham born defender become something of a bit-part player in the last couple of years.
